The function of Valves Seats is to act as the surface on which the Intake or Exhaust Valves rest when these Valves are in the closed position.

Valves in the cylinder head open and close rapidly during the engine’s operations. If the Valve Seats are positioned improperly, both the Valves and Valve Seats will be damaged during the course of the Valves’ rapid movement. Irregular combustion of the engine will also create carbon residues on the Valve Seats, which will compromise the seal effect between the Valve and the Seat.

Look out signs of bad Valve Seats.

A damaged Valve Seat will result in engine combustion gases leaking, leading to poor engine combustion ratio and hence, a reduced engine performance. In a severe case, an engine failure may even occur.
